Overview
WDTA Results (the website at wdta.app and the mobile app) does not collect, store, or share personal information, with two exceptions that you choose to switch on:
- Match notifications in the mobile app, which require us to store a notification token for your device (see Notifications below)
- The optional “Ask WDTA” assistant on the website, which processes the questions you type into it (see Ask WDTA below)
Both are off unless you turn them on. Aside from these, this policy explains how the app works and what data stays on your device.
Data we do not collect
Across the app and website — except the notification tokens and the “Ask WDTA” assistant described below — we do not collect, transmit, or store:
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Your location — the app has no GPS access and never asks for it
- Advertising IDs, or any identifier used to track or profile you
- Usage analytics or crash reports
- The contents of your calendar — the app only writes events you explicitly add
There are no user accounts, no sign-up forms, and no login.
Notifications
The mobile app can remind you about matches. Notifications are off by default — nothing below happens unless you turn them on by tapping the bell icon on a team page and granting permission.
Match reminders (the night before a match) are scheduled entirely on your device. They are not sent from our server, and we do not know they exist.
Results alerts do involve our server. To send them, we store:
- A notification tokenfor your device — an anonymous identifier issued by Expo's push service that lets Apple or Google deliver a message to your device. It contains no name, email, phone number, or location.
- The section and team you asked to follow, so we know which results are yours.
This is used only to deliver the alerts you asked for. It is never used for advertising, tracking, or profiling, and is never sold or shared with data brokers. Delivery goes through Expo's push serviceand then Apple's (APNs) or Google's (FCM) notification network.
Turning reminders off deletes the token from our server. Uninstalling the app also stops delivery, and tokens that stop working are removed.
Calendar
Tapping “Add to Calendar” adds that single match to your device's calendar. The app writes the event and nothing else — it never reads your existing events, and no calendar data is sent to us or to anyone else.
Home screen widget
The iPhone widget reads your next match from a private storage area shared between the app and the widget on your own device. That data never leaves your device.
Data stored on your device
The app caches tennis results, ladder standings, and fixture data locally on your device so it loads instantly and works offline. This data is:
- Publicly available — the same information visible on the TROLS website
- Stored only on your device, never sent to us
- Automatically replaced when fresher data is available
- Removed when you uninstall the app
The app also saves your section preference and pinned team locally so it can open directly to your section next time. This preference never leaves your device.
Data we fetch
When you open the app, it fetches tennis results from our server at wdta.app. That server retrieves publicly available data from the TROLS website (trols.org.au) on your behalf and caches it in a database to reduce load on the TROLS servers. Standard web server access logs (IP address, timestamp, page requested) may be retained briefly by our hosting provider (Vercel) as part of normal server operation. We do not use these logs for tracking or analytics.
Ask WDTA
The website offers an optional “Ask WDTA” assistant that answers questions about the association's rules using the official handbook. If you choose to use it:
- The question you type is sent to OpenAI, which generates the answer. OpenAI does not use questions submitted through its API to train its models.
- We log the question, the generated answer, and a one-way hashed, shortened form of your IP address. The hashed IP is used only to rate-limit the service and detect abuse — it cannot be reversed to identify you.
- We review these logs to improve answer quality and understand what members are asking.
The assistant never asks for personal information — please treat it like a public rules search box and don't type names, contact details, or other personal data into it. Answers are generated and may be imperfect; verify important decisions against the official by-laws or with your club convenor.
Third-party services
The app uses the following third-party services:
- Vercel — hosts the wdta.app server. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy.
- Google Maps— tapping “Navigate” on a club page opens Google Maps in a separate app. Google's privacy policy applies from that point.
- Expo— delivers push notifications if you opt in, via Apple's APNs or Google's FCM. Receives your device's notification token. Subject to Expo's Privacy Policy.
- Open-Meteo — provides the match weather forecast. The app requests the forecast for the venue'scoordinates, which are published club addresses bundled with the app — never your device's location.
- OpenAI— powers the optional “Ask WDTA” assistant on the website. Questions you submit to it are sent to OpenAI to generate a response. Subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
No advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or data brokers are used.
Children
This app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app has no accounts and asks for no personal details at any point. If notifications are switched on, the only thing stored is an anonymous device token and the team being followed (see Notifications above) — this identifies a device, not a person, and is deleted when reminders are switched off.
Changes to this policy
If we add features that involve data collection in the future, this policy will be updated and the “last updated” date above will change. For significant changes, we will note it in the app's release notes.
